P Shot

What is the P Shot?

The P Shot or Priapus Shot is a patented procedure using your own growth factors to improve erectile function. Growth factors from your own blood are activated to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and nerves of the penis.

As of today (July 2019), Dr. Gentry is the only physician in Fayetteville, AR trained to provide the P shot. He trained under Dr. Charles Runels, who developed the P Shot, and first performed the procedure in 2013.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)? How does it work?

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP, is a concentrated form of your own platelets. Professional athletes have been using PRP for decades to recover from injuries more quickly and to help avoid surgery for certain injuries. Suppose you fall and scrape your knee. Your platelets begin to initiate the blood clotting process but that is only part of their function. In response to their activation, the platelets release over thirty different growth factors from their granules.

These growth factors stimulate your stem cells to begin healing and regrow tissue. For instance, vascular endothelial derived growth factor (VEGF), tells your stem cells to grow new blood vessels. This is one of the growth factors that is most helpful for our purposes because blood flow is the main component of erectile function.

How is platelet rich plasma collected?

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is a concentrated form of your own platelets suspended in the liquid portion of your blood (plasma). PRP is collected by first performing a routine blood draw. The blood is then placed in a special type of tube and placed in a centrifuge. This process isolates your own platelets from the remainder of your blood. Your platelets are then activated to release their growth factors.

What are the risks of the P Shot?

Any time there is an injection, there is a risk of bruising or infection. There may be some mild soreness or swelling at the site of injections, but this is uncommon. There have been no serious permanent adverse effects reported from the P Shot (because it is your own blood). In the days following the treatment, you may notice a warm or tingling sensation as more blood flow is directed to this area.

Does the P Shot really work?

The providers performing the P shot have seen improvement of 4-5 points on the erectile function assessment scale (link to survey) in the majority of patients after 2 treatments. Dr. Gentry can discuss your treatment goals with you more specifically at your free consult. The results take about 3-12 weeks to achieve as your body has to grow new tissue.
